Membership
Why become a member of the Sheridan Historical Society?
American heritage is still in the making. It is a valued asset in large and small communities. But when a smaller town discovers a wealth yet to unfold in an unexpressed historical past, it is illuminating. This is especially one of those times and we are embracing great time for revitalization that belongs to each of us. We would welcome your membership. And we hope families as well as those of all ages will consider becoming a member.
The Sheridan Historical Society is a volunteer-driven organization that reaches out to preserve landmarks. Our work provides a reminder for residents and friends that those who have lived and gone before us often made great contributions to history. We trace those footsteps over time with genealogy. We celebrate principle and standards that made this nation strong-characteristics included in old documents and radiating from archived photographs. History is a touchstone. We find our best activities are rooted in culture and when we make discoveries together.
Join our adventure! No one would have even guessed that embracing a community’s heritage, getting out of the chair and getting involved, would be the spark to revitalize a community. But in Sheridan, the decision to both restore Boxley Cabin and revitalize the Sheridan Historical Society combined to ignite a new passion among residents for revitalization. With momentum on projects, successful fund development, new events that kindled interest in the pioneer past, people came together under the society’s banner to create distinctive activities like Sheridan Fireside Tales and the Boxley Lecture Series. Over the years, members of the society rallied and took the challenges that generated a can-do spirit and meaningful experiences. We encourage you to consider membership…come join us in the fun.
For many communities, not-for-profit organizations are the center of gravity, a source of meaningful citizen involvement. They produce activities that create a portrait of daily life, define the hopes and dreams of residents. One new member of the Sheridan Historical Society remarked, “If you want to find out what is happening in Sheridan today, join the Sheridan Historical Society to be in the know.” Others regard membership as an opportunity to make new friends as well as to work on projects that create pride and give measure to a better future. The Sheridan Historical Society is dynamic, and the archive it keeps has recorded the courage to take risks and enabled its members to achieve goals and move forward to tie the past into a better future.
We invite you to join us.to work with Sheridan's heritage projects and outreach events. We always need more voices to tell our stories and people to roll up their sleeves for the sake of heritage.
