2007 Boxley Cabin Public Archaeology Day
Unveiling Secrets From The Earth - Saturday, September 15, 9 am - 5 pm
Enjoy this special day on the Boxley frontier farm in Sheridan Veteran's Park with Archaeologist Jeff Plunkett, Accidental Discoveries, and members of the Sheridan Historical Society!
This preliminary archaeological survey, part of the restoration of the Boxley Cabin will allow volunteers to participate in a site overview of Boxley Cabin environs from an archaeologist's perspective! Work with Jeff to examine the property and learn about what he does to begin exploring its secrets!
- Excavate strategic test units to sample for artifacts and detect buried cultural features like old root cellars and privies.
- Assist technicians using metal detectors and other skills to identify old structual foundations that can only be traced with electronic equipment.
- Work with archaeologists to help excavate the edges of Boxley Cabin.
